The colorful monks are a part of the street scene everywhere in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, which all are heavily influenced by Indian tradition. Vietnam was different because it has derived most of it's culture from China.

People everywhere asked us where we come from. We told them we are from Finland, thinking that most people probably never have heard about that country. "Of course we know Finland" said everyone, happily waving their mobile phones, "home of Nokia". Everywhere you look you can see people playing with or talking on their phones. Even the monks in the temples (above right) - quite shocking ;)

The last place of interest on our Odyssey of Indonesia-Siam was Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai, the country's second largest city, was founded in the 13th century and it has more than 300 temples, almost as many as Bangkok, which is a much larger city.

Originally our plan was to return to our yacht in Langkawi via Bangkok, but the present political unrest in the Thai Capital force us to skip it this time, so we flew back via Kuala Lumpur a couple of days earlier than planned. No big loss though, we’ve been in Bangkok before.

and the Lonely Planet guide (above).

Most dishes are 1.5 USD, Cambodia (left).
